Yes, Faro has six urban rehabilitation areas (ARU): Vila Adentro, Bairro Ribeirinho, Mouraria, the zone around the historic centre, Alto Rodes and the Frente Ribeirinha.

- Inside a declared ARU, national tax rules can apply to rehabilitation works: reduced VAT, IMI and IMT exemptions and an IRS deduction. The conditions are in the guide; the council decides whether the IMI exemption can be renewed for five more years.
